48V1000Ah is a relatively popular battery bank capacity and a good choice for many projects and home use. It has a total capacity of 48kWh, and the actual amount of recommended energy released per day depends on the different types of batteries that make up the battery bank.
There are various types of lithium and lead-acid batteries to consider, some of which are listed below for your reference.
VRLA GFM Battery 12V250Ah | 6-GFM-250
As a popular type of lead-acid battery, 4*4=16pcs 12V250Ah can be made up into 48V1000Ah battery bank by 4 in parallel and 4 in series. At present, it is the most economical way of the combination. And it is also simple to install. The recommended depth of discharge is 50% DOD, in order to achieve a good cycle life. For projects with less frequent use, it’s a good choice.

Deep Cycle AGM Battery 12V250Ah | 6-DC-250
Like the GFM battery above, there are also 16 batteries in 4 series and 4 parallel, but the difference is that the deep cycle battery is more focused on the deep discharge ability and cycle life. The recommended depth of discharge is still 50%, but it is possible to set it to 70% if you want.
This combination is appropriate for more frequent charging and discharging, or for higher power requirements, such as 30kWh of daily use.

Gel Battery 12V250Ah | 6-JT-250
The cycle life of gel batteries is better than deep cycle batteries.
Although the combination is still the same, and they are also lead batteries. In high power discharging condition, gel batteries are not as good as the above two AGM batteries. If there are high power appliances, it is not recommended to use gel batteries. For 48V1000Ah battery bank, 15kW will be the upper limit of the gel battery.

2V Industrial Battery GFM-1000
Due to the high plate of 2V large battery, it has better cycle life than deep cycle battery.
The capacity of 48V1000Ah can be achieved by connecting 24 units 2V1000Ah batteries in series. 2V industrial batteries can be combined to a much larger capacity.

OPzS Battery
OPzS is probably the longest cycle life solution of lead batteries in a ventilated environment, if you don’t mind regular acid maintenance.
OPzS batteries produce gas that escapes into the air during charging, thus reducing the volume of water and the air may contain flammable components. So make sure to have good ventilation.

OPzV Battery
OPzV is a gel version of OPzS battery, which has a very good cycle life and requires no maintenance.
The disadvantage is the relatively high price.

12V LFP Battery 12V250Ah | LFP128250
As a drop-in replacement for 12V lead batteries, 12V LFP batteries offer the most cost-effective solution in the long run.
The recommended depth of discharge is 80%, the cycle life can still reach 5000 times, it can work for 10 years or more.

48V Modular LFP Battery
10 pcs of 48V100Ah can make up for 48V1000Ah.
48V Modular LFP Battery not only has a super long life and high depth of discharge because of LFP technology, but also with the relevant data records. Through these records, minor problems can be quickly detected, then adjusted to ensure that the batteries are running at their most efficient status. This results in much longer working life.

Conclusion
The best battery is the right one, and the right battery type is not the same for different charge & discharge frequency, working conditions, and maintenance labor required.
Which one do you think is the best type?

Hi Andy,
I am trying to gather a bank composition that can continuously run 3000 watts. I currently have 6 -12v lead acid batteries varying between 75-150Ahrs, different brands with at least 3 RV deep cycle types.
My calculations have surmised the bank to be after compensating for DOD % 50; that it is a 300Ah Bank. But it still does not provide adequate power during my heavy use periods. I think that these batteries being a mixed group have a few dead cells among them, thus rendering the entire bank ineffective during high wattage periods; especially when running the 5K btu AC unit.
Can you suggest a battery series that would handle this type power needs more effectively? From your email I gather a Lithium battery would be the way to go, but as far as brand and reliability, I’m still unclear as to where to spend my money.
Thanks in advance for your reply.
Hi Mr. Huddleston,
Well, I am not quite sure about your conditions, but I think at least you have to connect the batteries with the same capacity…
For constant 3000W power output, the regular voltage is 48V, then the constant current will be 62.5A.
How long do you want the battery system to work?
If for deep cycle AGM battery, it is better to be at least 12V200Ah battery, 4 units in series to make up 48V battery system.
If for deep cycle LiFePO4 battery, 51.2V100Ah is good enough to support for over 1.5 hours.
Thanks!
Andy
